Mizo is spoken by over 1 million speakers in the northeastern part of India, in the state of Mizoram and its neighbouring states of Manipur, Tripura, and Assam. It is also spoken by some communities living in Bangladesh and Myanmar. The total number of speakers outside India, however, is not known.
Unlike other Hindi languages, Mizo alphabet is based on the Roman script. This is because people of Mizoram have over 200 years of long history of contact with Western missionaries and colonial powers, such as the British, who introduced Roman script to the Mizo people in the 19th century for translating and spreading Christian religious texts.
As Mizo language uses Roman script with additional diacritic mark to indicate tone and phonetic features, it can be typed easily using the QWERTY keyboard layout. So there is no need to learn a different set of alphabet and keyboard layout!
